SNOW DAY Decisions Made
The Fairfax County School Board has approved FCPS Superintendent Jack D. Dale's recommendation to make up four instructional days lost due to inclement weather. The Board approved a plan to follow the official 2009-10 calendar, which includes using Monday, April 12, as a makeup day for a full day of school and using June 23, 24, and 25 as makeup days to satisfy the remainder of the four-day deficit for schools following the standard calendar. The Board also gave Dale approval to seek a waiver from the Virginia Board of Education for one of the makeup days and any additional days that may be missed for the remainder of the 2009-10 school year.
Fairfax County School Board chairman, Kathy Smith, said "We heard from thousands of parents and employees who overwhelmingly wanted us to stay with our approved calendar, and the Board listened".

Keeping Up With the Budget...
Fairfax County Public Schools is now publishing The Bottom Line, a new publication that will be sent to all FCPS parents and employees every two weeks while the budget for next school year (FY 2011) is proposed, discussed, and approved (in May 2010). It contains the latest budget news, facts, dates, and rumor busters to help the FCPS community better understand the budget and the budget process. Links will be posted on the FY 2011 budget web site at http://www.fcps.edu/news/fy2011.htm.
The Oak Hill PTA supports adequate funding for all of our public schools. We encourage all parents and taxpayers to stay informed and make their voices heard regarding the funding and budgeting issues currently impacting FCPS. Click to view information/links that you may find helpful.

The award is the highest honor under the Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) incentive program created by the Board of Education in 2007 to advance Governor Kaine's "competence to excellence" agenda promoting advanced learning and achievement. Check out the Official Press Release. Congratulations to all the dedicated and hard working staff at Oak Hill!

Oakie's BB&T Bank
Oak Hill Elementary has parnered with BB&T Bank to create an in-school bank, Oakie's BB&T. The main purpose of this program is to encourage students to save for their future. It is managed and run by our 5th and 6th grade students and open in the lobby every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 8:15-8:35AM to accept deposits. (All other transactions can be done at regular BB&T branches.) Oak Hill students can open a new savings account with no minimum deposit, and BB&T will deposit $5 into the account for free. To open a new account, visit the Oakie's BB&T table during Back-to-School night. For more information, contact Angie Fontanilla, at acfontani@yahoo.com.
