Communications Survey - Please Help...
In an effort to improve communications tools and methods for the upcoming school year, we would like to ask you to take a few minutes to complete a brief survey. The survey focuses on opportunities the PTA has available to create ease in payment and ordering items related to the PTA, use of the PTA website and Facebook pages. The survey is completely anonymous. We greatly value your opinion. Thank you for your time and we hope you have a wonderful summer.

Congratulations and Thanks
Angie Fontanilla and Lori Manik
If you weren't able to attend our final PTA meeting, you missed recognition for two outstanding PTA volunteers:
Angie was selected as our PTA Volunteer of the Year! At board meetings, Angie's name came up almost every month when discussing current events and activi...ties at Oak Hill. Angie served as the Room Parent coordinator, organized Oakie's BB&T, took a lead role in planning the sixth grade end-of-school celebration, and also was the Robotics coordinator. Thank you, Angie, for your dedication to the school and to the PTA!
Lori was honored with the VA PTA Award for Distinguished Service. Lori has been a fixture at Oak Hill and in the PTA for 8 years. In her very first year at Oak Hill, she stepped forward to serve as the PTA's first vice president. She went on to become the PTA president for two years and was instrumental in some of major changes in the way our PTA operates, including the transition to pledge fundraising. In the four years since she left the PTA presidency, the PTA board has elected her to standing committee positions so that it could continue to benefit from her amazing wisdom, knowledge and passion for the PTA's mission. In addition to serving the board, Lori has represented our community within the school system and at in the district and state levels of the PTA. She has, of course, also served the school and PTA by taking on many less visible but very important tasks, from room parent, to legislative chairperson, to staff breakfast hostess, and much more. Many thanks to Lori for all that she has done to serve the students, staff and parents here at Oak Hill!
If you see either of them, give them a big pat on the back and a round of thanks!

Shop & Support Oak Hill
Oct 12 - Did you know that you can help Oak Hill raise thousands of dollars and earn free equipment & supplies just by linking your grocery loyalty cards to Oak Hill? Giant, Bloom and Harris Teeter, all offer families the opportunity to support one or more schools of their choice. So, please grab all those loyalty cards and help Oak Hill by linking your card to Oak Hill at each of those stores. Check out our

Let's Move! toward healthier food in school...
Oct 4 - First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! campaign, in association with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is challenging school nutrition professionals, chefs, students, parents and interested community members to create tasty, healthy, exciting new recipes for inclusion on school lunch menus across the country. Winning teams will win $12,000 in prizes and be invited to prepare their nutrition-packed recipes alongside White House chefs. Get your school involved now by going to RecipesForKidsChallenge.com. Or view the
flyer for more information.
Oak Hill Continues to GO GREEN! with Virtual Friday Folder
Oct 1 - Oak Hill and the PTA are continuing their efforts to conserve resources. Beginning Friday, Oct. 22, instead of stuffing the Friday Folder with many unwanted papers, we will begin posting those notes on the school and PTA website. Your child's Friday Folder will still contain projects and work sent home, notes from their classroom teachers, and permission slips for activities such as field trips. This change will save on paper, printing, and time volunteers give stuffing folders, and allow them to use that time to more directly help students. Putting them on the web, will allow parents to read only what pertains to them, and since they will remain online, you will be able to access them at a later date if you need. We also realize that not all families have easy access to the internet. Both the school and PTA are happy to continue to provide paper copies of flyers when needed. If you do not have regular internet access at home, please complete this
Opt-In Form to receive paper copies of flyers and announcements each week. To view, click on the Friday Folder link on the navigation bar on the left.
Oak Hill Chosen for AHA Teaching Garden Program
Sept. 28 - Oak Hill is one of nine schools nationwide, and the only school in Virginia, chosen to participate in the American Heart Association's (AHA) Teaching Garden program, an initiative designed by environmental and health activist Kelly Meyer, which will teach elementary and middle school students the importance of healthy eating and physical activity. For more information, check the
FCPS News Release.
